art and a haircut, two bits…

Claire loves to draw.  She also loves peace signs.  She prefers bright colors over pastels.  If given a pen or a pencil, she uses the pen (which to me shows a great deal of confidence).  She is always thinking of ways to add to things she already owns, in order to make it more unique to her.  I love this about her.  I remember when she first started coming home from school with things drawn, in marker of course, all over her hands.  At first, I was not happy.  It usually happened when we had something special planned that evening where I didn’t want to show up with the child who had black and green fingers.  But then I realized, it was her own way of being creative and if I told her she couldn’t do it, then I might be squelching her desire to be artistic (I know, I over-dramatize things, so be it).   So then I decided that she could do it, as long as she tried to keep the black marker out of the mix.

She hasn’t changed much since those early years of creativity, except now she uses fingernail polish on her nails instead of marker (thank goodness!).

Here are a few examples of things she has embellished lately:

Her school notebook, apparently needed some sprucing up...

Her converse that her Aunt Beanie picked out for her, pretty colorful themselves but I guess the white toe and edging wasn't working for her!

these are some comfy shoes that were just black, until I used white out one day to liven them up.. I guess she came by it honestly...
Well, I really have no room to talk either, because this was what happened one day with some white out and a plain pair of black RocketDogs, and a very bored me.

She also used her talent for a fundraiser at school last week, by designing this label for a water bottle.  The kids at her school were selling bottles of water and powdered drink mix to raise money for Hope for Haiti.  She was really excited because she got to sell them before school one day, and purchased two for herself.

Remember when I mentioned that Miss V got a haircut?  Well… IT’S STINKING ADORABLE!!!  I love it, she loves it, it’s so much fun!  Her Mom did a fantastic job and I couldn’t wait to share some pictures, so without further adieu…

  1. Veda looks so much like Audra in that top picture! I love the cut – what a big change, her hair was sooo long!

Miss Claire certainly takes after her lovely and talented mama in the design department! What a bunch of cool chicks you guys have at your house. (Well, Mark and the pups ain’t too bad either, I guess) 🙂
